Habitat for Humanity of Prairie Lakes, servicing Pope and Stevens Counties in western Minnesota is offering a unique opportunity for the right person to assist our affiliate in developing our donor base and communicating better to the public our needs. You will determine ways the two chapters can effectively work together in the area of communication. You will use your skills and talents to expand our fund raising efforts by assisting with grant writing, creating a “donor club” and coming up with creative ways to thank donors. Your assistance is needed to determine which fund raising events are the best use of time and recourses. You will be involved in recruiting a news letter editor and photographer/historian to help tell our Habitat story. You will also work closely with our web master and local media to make sure the public is well informed of our current needs. If you believe in Habitat’s goal of working with donors, volunteers and homeowners to create simple, decent, affordable housing for those in need, then consider joining us in making our local communities a better place to live.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be a person who is a self-starter and who is able to work with minimal supervision.
2. Must be creative and possess good writing skills to write grants, procedures, and letters.
3. Must possess good communication skills in order to speak to a variety of audiences, large and small.
4. Must possess good computer skills including keyboarding, web surfing, data systems and PowerPoint presentations.
5. Must have good listening skills, be able to take direction and relate well to the board, operating teams and the public.
6. Must be able to motivate volunteers to give of their time, talents and financial resources.
7. A college degree or experience in grant writing, fund raising and or public relations preferred.
8. Actual volunteer experience with Habitat for Humanity or other non-profit organizations preferred.
9. A US citizen or Permanent Resident
10. At least 18 years or older.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
AmeriCorps VISTA is a one-year commitment from 11/13/0-11/17/08
