I'm a straight woman and I can't imagine what it would be like to share a locker room with straight men checking me out. I can't even stand sharing the bathroom at the Independent. However, I think it's just because I'm self conscious. I've heard guys complain about being uncomfortable sharing a locker room with gay men, and I don't really understand it. Do ya'll think it's contagious? It's a shame to see so much narrowmindedness in what's supposed to be a progressive city. If you're good looking, you're going to get noticed. Maybe even appreciated. That doesn't mean you're going to get assaulted.
Thanks to the guy who posted earlier: "Even though I'm not a homosexual, I still would like to know if that guy who saw some hot dude lifting weights was talking about me." We seriously need to hear from more people like you; maybe you can convince the bigots that they're just not cool. Sorry for being stereotypical, but the gay guys I know are FAR pickier about their men than I am. If you're noticed (at least by one of the guys that I know), take it as the highest possible compliment.
To the guy who posted: "One of the reasons that we "fags" often don't make overt passes at each other in public is the very real chance that bigots will react negatively, even violently, should they hear us do so." It is so, so, so wrong for you to have to deal with that. I seriously cannot even attempt to understand how some people can be so awful. Just know that there are people out there who WILL stand up against people like that.
Why is it so hard just to accept people?
